Building the Perfect New England Outdoor Home Theater
Summer in New England is short, and there's nothing quite like making the most of your backyard — whether that's watching the Red Sox from the deck, setting up an outdoor movie night by the firepit, or streaming a game while the kids are in the pool. After years of designing and installing outdoor AV systems across the Greater Boston area, we've dialed in what we consider to be the best overall outdoor TV package for 2026 New England backyards — and this post breaks it all down for you.
We're going to walk you through our current go-to TV, the matching soundbar, and the mounting solutions we trust — plus honest caveats about where this setup shines and where it has its limits.
The TV: Samsung Terrace 65"
The Samsung Terrace — our current #1 recommendation for New England outdoor spaces.
Right now, the Samsung Terrace 65" QLED is our most-recommended outdoor TV, and for good reason. The picture quality is genuinely stunning — vibrant, accurate color with Samsung's 4K QLED panel, and a brightness level that holds up beautifully in partially shaded and covered outdoor spaces. It's also IP55 weather-rated, meaning it's built to handle the kind of New England weather we all know too well: humid summers, late-season rain, and everything in between.
One of the biggest reasons our customers love it is how seamlessly it fits into their existing Samsung ecosystem. If you're already familiar with Samsung's native streaming platform, you'll feel right at home — Tizen OS is built right in, so there's no separate streaming stick required. Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max — all right there. And the remote is genuinely one of the nicest, most user-friendly remotes in the outdoor TV space. No compromises there.
Important: Sun Exposure Matters The Samsung Terrace is rated for partial sun or shade — and we want to be very clear about this. If your location receives direct, full sun for extended periods throughout the day, this TV is not the right choice. Constant UV exposure and heat stress will degrade the screen over time, leading to discoloration, hot spots, and permanent damage — regardless of its weather rating. For full-sun locations, look at the Samsung Terrace Full Sun variant, the Seura Ultra Bright, or the SunBrite Pro series. Not sure about your exposure? Reach out — we evaluate this on every install.

The Samsung Terrace is very manageable to install, and the process itself is straightforward. That said, there's one thing we always flag to customers: the weather-tight input compartment on the back of the TV.
Samsung designed a sealed, weather-protected compartment on the rear panel that houses all of your HDMI inputs, USB ports, and other connections — smart design for outdoor longevity. But once the mount is secured to the back of the TV, that compartment can become quite difficult to access. If you're going the DIY route, plan your cable runs before you commit the mount to the wall. Pre-route anything you need — HDMI from an indoor source, etc. — before everything is locked in place. This is one of those things that's easy to overlook and genuinely frustrating to deal with after the fact.
Before you tighten the final bolts on your mount, plug in every cable you think you'll ever need and leave some slack. Future you will be grateful. We've seen customers realize they needed an extra HDMI port post-install on a tight articulating mount — not a fun situation.
The Soundbar: Samsung Terrace Outdoor Soundbar
The Samsung Terrace Soundbar — purpose-built to pair with the Terrace TV and rated for all-weather outdoor use.
We can't stress this enough: add a soundbar. Sound outdoors behaves completely differently than it does inside — it disperses fast, and even a high-end TV's built-in speakers will feel thin and flat in an open backyard. A dedicated outdoor soundbar makes an enormous difference for the game, for movie nights, for everything.
The Samsung Terrace Outdoor Soundbar (HW-LST70T) is purpose-built to pair with the Terrace TV. It's also IP55 weather-rated, so it can live outside year-round just like the TV. The sound is rich and full — significantly more bass and presence than you'd get otherwise — and it integrates cleanly with the TV's settings. One remote controls both. It's a genuinely seamless system.

Getting a flat surface on your house wall — we can cut in Azek trim board and silicone seal for a perfect install.
When it comes to outdoor mounts, we typically turn to the SunBrite line of weatherproof articulating mounts. SunBrite builds mounts specifically for outdoor use — powder-coated to resist rust, rated for the elements, and designed to hold up through New England winters and summers alike. They're the brand we trust most for longevity in the field.
That said, we know not everyone is working with a professional installer. If you're ordering off Amazon and want a solid DIY-friendly option, we've seen customers have great luck with the Mount-It! heavy-duty articulating mount. It has a huge weight capacity, and the extra-long extension arm is a real advantage in setups where you need extended reach or wider viewing angles — for example, mounting on the side of a structure while angling toward a seating area that's set back further than a standard arm can reach.
Which Mount is Right for You? If we're handling your install, we'll bring the right SunBrite mount for your specific situation. If you're going DIY and your setup requires extended reach or heavy-duty capacity, the Mount-It! option below is worth a serious look.

- Clean integration — looks polished and intentional on any outdoor structure
Quick Recap: Know Your Sun Exposure The Samsung Terrace (standard version) is ideal for covered porches, pergolas, overhangs, and partially shaded areas. It is not designed for locations that get full direct sun for most of the day. When in doubt, take a look at your space at different times of day — and reach out to us. We can help you evaluate it properly.
